Kathleen Cruz joined FSSV in 2019. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Cruz worked for an insurance defense firm, which focused on management-side employment litigation. Ms. Cruz represented employers in employment matters, ranging from alleged violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to claims made under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. Throughout her career, Ms. Cruz negotiated favorable settlements for her clients, secured summary judgments, and handled civil cases from inception to trial.
While in law school, Ms. Cruz served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Irma C. Ramirez in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. She also served in SMU’s Federal Taxpayers Clinic, where she successfully negotiated tax settlements and disputed tax liability with the Internal Revenue Service for low-income clients. Ms. Cruz also clerked for the Federal Aviation Administration, Office of the Chief Counsel Labor & Employment Division in Washington, D.C. Ms. Cruz was President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association and Associate Managing Editor of the International Law Review Association. She also was a recipient for the Texas Young Lawyers Association Diversity Scholarship.
