Mauricio Chavez joined FSSV in 2020. Mr. Chavez maintains a diverse litigation practice with an emphasis on personal injury, construction liability and defects, transportation liability, products liability, premises liability, and breach of contract. He represents clients in both federal and state courts, as well as arbitration proceedings.
Mr. Chavez draws on his considerable experience to assess the key legal issues presented in each matter early on, which is followed by a focused approach to meet the objectives of the client in an efficient and effective manner.
Prior to joining FSSV, Mr. Chavez practiced at a distinguished South Texas law firm specializing in admiralty and maritime law. Mr. Chavez has extensive experience in Limitation of Vessel Owner’s Liability Act proceedings, vessel arrest actions, voyage and bareboat charter agreements, and maritime liens.
For five years, in addition to his law practice, Mr. Chavez operated his family’s longtime commercial fishing business in Brownsville, Texas. During that time, Mr. Chavez gained valuable experience in all aspects of running a small business and uniquely understands navigating through the difficult challenges, financial and otherwise, that business owners face when a legal dispute arises.
Mr. Chavez was born in Nicaragua and reads, writes and speaks Spanish fluently.
